Guernsey swimming Club Puffin Gala 2015

The Guernsey swimming clubs annual puffin gala recently took place at Beau Sejour which produced some great swims and also introduced the younger participant to competition for the first time with the youngest of the swimmers being the tender age of 3.

A total of 14 new record marks were set throughout the duration of the competition, 3 of these new records went to 6 year old Rufus Bousfield in both the 10 metre freestyle and backstroke and the 25 metre freestyle for participants in the small pool, Both 6 year old Emma Bourgaize and Regan Penny set 2 new records each in both girl and boy 25 metre freestyle and backstroke events, Also putting 2 too their name was 5 year old Samuel Cann in both his 10 metre backstroke and freestyle events and 5 year old Daniel Joyce in his 10 metre float race and 10 metre freestyle width race who was followed in by 4 year old Cory De Jersey who also dipped under the previous record mark. Oliver Marsh added his name to the record list by setting a new record in the 7 year old boy’s 25 metre freestyle race and 7 year old Bailey Le Marchant added his name to the list in his 10 metre freestyle. To finish off the record breaking form saw 8 year olds Harry Heaume and Jamie Hancock battle it out in their 25 metre freestyle race, with both coming in under the previous record and only 0.1 of a second to separate them at the finish saw Harry touch first and claiming the new record in his name.

Other gold medal performances included Eloise Gallienne winning all 3 of her events in the 10 years age group, double gold medal winners for the day were 8 year old Hannah Kennedy, 9 year olds Ebony Lowndes and Lennon Williams and 11 year old Evie Sturgeon.

The youngest to leave the competition wearing a gold medal was 3 year old Jacob Lee with Jack Skyrme in a close second with the youngest girl being 4 year old Phoebe De Lisle who all competed for the first time in their 10 metre race.
