Hampshire County Age Group Championships 2019

Guernsey Swimming Club swimmers Luke Le Cras and Abigail Stephens had an excellent showing when they competed this weekend for the last time at the junior weekend of the Hampshire County Championships before they move up to compete at senior level next year.

Luke qualified for 7 swims over the weekend, coming home with a Silver medal, 4 personal best times and 2 top ten placings in the County. Abigail qualified for 5 swims, achieving a personal best in the 100m Backstroke and 2 top ten county placings.

A delayed start due to the adverse weather conditions across the county resulted in the decision being taken not to run finals across the weekend, all swims therefore being run as heat declared winners. Despite this, both swimmers had an excellent start to the weekend achieving personal bests, Luke in the 200m Individual Medley placing 14th with a 2.37.04 and Abigail in the 100m Backstroke placing 7th with a 1.14.94.  The afternoon followed in a similar vein with Abigail placing 12th in the 100m Freestyle and 9th in the 50m Backstroke and Luke 12th in the 100m Breaststroke.

The next morning saw Luke put up an excellent performance achieving personal best times in all three of his swims, 200m Freestyle with a 2.20.81,  50m Breaststroke with a 36.84  and the 100m Backstroke on 1.13.18.  Abigail swam the 50m Freestyle in a fiercely contested heat placing 12th equal with 30.49.

The final session in the afternoon saw an excellent performance from Luke in the 200m Breaststroke achieving the Silver medal in a time of 2.51.04 and he went on to swim the 50m Backstroke narrowly missing his personal best time with a 34.55 whilst Abigail also just missed her personal best in the final swim of the weekend, 50m Butterfly which she swam in 35.37.
