2019 Hampshire County Championships got on the way this weekend with the distance events being held at Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. 12 year old Hannah Kennedy represented Guernsey Swimming Club competing for the first time in a 50m competition pool, 22 clubs from all over the Hampshire district attended the meet where two new events were introduced 800m for boys and 1500m for girls bringing it in line with South East Regionals and Nationals.
Having just missed out on qualifying last year Hannah has worked extremely hard all year entering as many competitions as possible. Her work and determination paid off when Hannah qualified for all four of the distance events and was the only Guernsey Swimmer at the event.
The first event for Hannah was the 800m freestyle and although having never swam in a 50m pool and not knowing what to expect she swam a good steady race finishing 8thin a time of 12:46.50. Hannah had a better swim in the 400m Individual medley having taken the 100m butterfly at a steady pace, pushing through the backstroke and making up places with a strong breaststroke and a fast 100m freestyle Hannah finished 4thin a time of 6:37.35.
Hannah had a good swim in the 400m Freestyle finishing 9thin 5:59.98, the final swim 1500m freestyle was another strong performance. Hannah started well with a strong first 100m and then she held on with a steady pace finishing strong to finish 4thin 23:27.46. All together it was an excellent but long tiring weekend competing in in all four distance events with some great results.
