The 2024 Speedo GB Aquatics Summer Championships took place over the week beginning 20th July 2024 at Ponds Forge Centre in Sheffield. This competition is the highest national competition for British swimmers and the Guernsey Swimming Club had one swimmer invited to compete, Emma Bourgaize and also had 3 affiliated swimmers competing in the 18 and over age groups, Chloe Bown, Charlie-Joe Hallett and Ronny Hallett.
Emma competed in the 15 year age group, in 2 events. The 50m Freestyle, where she swam a personal best time of 27.93 seconds, which placed her 13th overall, and the 100m Freestyle in which she swam a time of 1.00.75, placing her 14th overall.
Chloe Bown was competing with Mount Kelly College. She competed in the 200m Individual Medley in which she achieved a personal best time of 2.19.75 this cemented her place in the final where she finished 8th overall, 200M Freestyle, she swam a time of2.06.34 unfortunately just missing out on the final by .05 of a second, placing 11th overall, she also swam in the 200m Breaststroke. She was part of the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay where they achieved a silver medal with a time of 8.18.24, the 4 x 100 Freestyle relay, again placing second overall in a time of 3.47.81 . She was also part of the Mount Kelly College team in the 4 x 100m Individual Medley relay, where she swam the breaststroke leg, the team finished 8th overall with a time of 4.19.05.
Charlie-Joe and Ronny both competed for Plymouth Leander, in the 100m Breaststroke, Charlie-Joe finished in 9th place overall in a time of 1.03.60, whilst Ronny finished 16thoverall in a time of 1.04.90. They both swam in the 50m Breaststroke, Charlie-Joe in a time of 28.82, placing him 9th overall, Ronny finished joint 11th overall in a time of 29.00. Charlie-Joe also did the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2.23.06 which placed him 15thoverall. Ronny was part of the Plymouth Leander B team in the 4x100m Individual Medley Relay, the team placed 5th overall with a time of 3.47.59.
All 4 swimmers swam incredibly well over the week, at a high level, exciting competition. Emma is also looking forward to competing in the English National Championships, which will also be taking part at Ponds Forge Centre.
