South East Regional Swimming Championships (15 & Over)

Laura Le Cras took two bronze medals home at the 15 & over South East Regional Swimming Championships which was held over the long May Day bank holiday weekend in High Wycombe. Whilst at present her training is focused on the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Laura decided to go to Regionals to gain quality long course racing practice as part of her preparation for the Commonwealth Games. Although just off her PB, Laura was reasonably pleased with her swims making the finals in both the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke finishing both races in bronze position. As a result of the quality of Laura’s swims she has been invited to the English Nationals which will be held in Sheffield in August.

Sibling Luke qualified for all three breaststroke events acquitting himself well with some excellent swims and seasonal best long course times in some very tightly contested races. Luke also has been invited to attend the English Nationals for his 50m & 100m breaststroke events.
Hannah Kennedy also had a great swim having qualified for the 100m backstroke. She had a great start, increasing her speed to finish in a new personal best time of 2:35.19 finishing 14th overall.

All the South East Regional Championships are extremely competitive with 15-16 heats of an 8 lane 50m pool for each individual event, with many swimmers only separated by ten hundredths of a second with many finals being determined by fingertip touches. 90 clubs from over the South East Region competed over the weekends. Poolside was hot and cramped starting at 8am and finishing at 6pm – long hours were spent on poolside. Over 100 swimmers had their entries rejected due to the quality of the entries and the Guernsey Swimming Club was really pleased to have 8 qualify for these events and their subsequent performances.
