The Guernsey Swimming Club recently held its annual Porpoise Gala at Beau Sejour. Children aged up to 11 years swam in events ranging from 10 metres in the small pool to 100 metres in the main pool.
The club’s youngest stars took part in the mixed 5 and under 10m freestyle event that saw Samuel Sheridan take home the gold medal with Robyn Brimson-Hartnett and Jude Marley close behind. In the 10m backstroke, Jude took control and touched first with Robyn in second and Jacob Lodge, third.
The Guernsey Swimming Club holds the annual Curr Cup in this gala which sees small pool swimmers compete over 10 metres. The youngest swimmer to complete the distance is announced champion and this year, 5 year old Jacob Lodge took home the trophy.
In the girls 6 & overs, Megan Blumsom stole the show with two gold medals in the freestyle and backstroke. Scarlett Robin took the silver in the freestyle followed by Bethany Batiste. Bethany also took the bronze in the backstroke. Amelie McCarthy took silver. Toby Miles performed well in the boys freestyle gaining the gold medal and Noah Le Noury took silver.
Young swimmers who train in the wings of the main pool competed over 25m in their own category. Seven-year-old Lola Williams took home the gold medals in the girls freestyle and backstroke events. Adam Beak (6) claimed the gold in the freestyle and Joshua Leightley (7) stole first place in the backstroke.
Seven-year-olds Amia Allen and Genevieve Wu took battle over three events with Amia claiming two gold’s in the breaststroke and freestyle leaving Genevieve to take gold in the backstroke. In the boys, Jack Watson took top spot in all three races.
Samuel Cann and Scarlett Rose-Foss, both 9, ensured that they were only taking home gold medals by speeding through all five races touching first in the 25m butterfly, 50m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and 100m IM.
Ten-year-old Emma Bourgaize fought hard over all five of her events taking the gold in four of them as fellow swimmer Tara Kennedy (11) touched first in the 50m backstroke. Oliver Stephens (10) ensured that he would take a clean sweep of gold medals by flying through the 50m backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and 100m IM.
