Hampshire County Championships Senior weekend
Three Guernsey Swimming Club swimmers travelled to Portsmouth for the final weekend of the Hampshire Country championships weekend. Although still a junior 12 year old Laura Le Cras made the senior swimmers qualifying times for the long course event in the under 15’s. Swimming in a quality race Laura won her heat winning a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.01.24 an outstanding swim new personal best time, South East regional qualifying time, 1st place ranking for her age group in the South East regional and 13th in the British National rankings. In the 50m free Laura achieved one of her goals by going under the 30 second mark in long course in a time of 29.69. She enjoyed the weekend achieving several more Southern qualifying times and valuable swimming time in a 50m pool to help prepare for the South East Region Championships at the K2 Crawley in May.
Team mate Charlie Joe Hallett had qualified for 12 events with some outstanding swimming and hard fort races he came 5th in the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 36.00 which is a base qualifying time for southern’s and when converted to short course time a new pb. The weekends highlights for Charlie Joe were in the 50m butterfly which was an excellent race with Charlie Joe looking very strong all the way to the finish and setting a new personal best time of 30.78, and the 50m backstroke where he came second in heat in a tight race to the finish. Charlie Joe managed 8 pb’s over the weekend.
Sarah Whitchurch competing in the S5 category qualified for 5 events coming first in all of her events, all her swims were close to her entered times with the 100m breaststroke a new long course personal best, Sarah’s next competition will be at the British Master and Senior Age Group Championship in April where she hopes to challenge the British record in the S5 400m freestyle long course. Sarah has also qualified for the South East Region Championships at the K2 Crawley in May.
