Hampshire County Age Group Swimming championships 2016

Guernsey Swimming Club junior’s excelled at the recent Hampshire Counties meet, the six young swimmers successfully achieved qualifying times during the last 9 months to compete in the event held at Waterlooville in Portsmouth.

Laura Le Cras (12) entered 11 events making all the Finals for her 50’s and 100’s events swimming them all except for the 100 backstroke. Competing in some very exciting and close races Laura won the 50m & 100m Freestyle, came 2^nd in the 50m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley and 3^rd in the 100m Butterfly.   In all Laura swam 17 races over the two days and gained additional automatic qualifying times for South East Region championships to be held in May.  Although still a Junior Laura will return to Portsmouth this weekend to compete in the Senior Hampshire Counties meet having gained the higher qualification times, this will be a valuable experience for her to compete long course at a higher competition level to prepare her for Southern and hopefully move up in the National rankings.

Having competed the weekend before at the Hampshire distance weekend Samuel Lowe (11) qualified for a further 9 events making 6 finals, adding to his 400m IM bronze medal Samuel came 1^st in his 100m Butterfly and 2^nd in the 200m backstroke gaining new BPB’s in all but two of his swims with some outstanding swims.

New to the event and qualifying for 10 events Luke Le Cras (10) made 4 finals and with some great swims coming 2^nd in the 200m Individual Medley, 100m freestyle and 3^rd in the 200m Freestyle. Luke set seven new PB’s at the weekend and really enjoyed his first experience in England, competing at a high level.

Coming back for a second year Ronny Hallett (11) qualified for 6 events and with some excellent swimming and 5 new PB’s making the final in the 100m Freestyle finishing 8th

Making his Hampshire debut Josh Stevens (12) had 5 qualifying times made the 100m and 50m Backstroke finals placing 6^th in both races setting 4 new personal best times in the process.

Younger sister Abbigail (10) qualified for 3 events making two finals finishing 4^th in the 50m Backstroke improving her personal best times in the processes gaining valuable experience for future years.

All the Guernsey Swimming Club swimmers had a fabulous weekend setting lots of PBs returning to Guernsey very tired after the intense and successful weekend away feeling shattered and going home to catch up on their sleep and school homework.
