The Guernsey Swimming Club are pleased to announce the two Club Captains for 2021 are Luke Le Cras and Charlie–Joe Hallett.
To be eligible for consideration, the swimmers had be swimming in the 16+ age group for 2021, based in the Island for the majority of the year and the previous 2020 Club Captains were not eligible to stand for a consecutive year. They were elected by way of a vote from the second hour swimmers in Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The role of Club Captain is not purely a “badge of honour” but is also a position of responsibility and a fundamental role within the club providing an interface between the committee and the swimmers. Haidee Stephens will be a mentor for them during their year in office to help them achieve and excel in the role which is detailed below.

2. To attend and support GSC swimmers at all local events and those events which they are attending overseas.
3. To make themselves known to all swimmers as club captain.
4. To provide a positive role model and to uphold all Club policies and protocols.
5. To act as a liaison between the swimmers and the committee and coaches.
6. To attend quarterly Committee meetings to represent the swimmers, to put forward any ideas from the swimmers and to provide feedback to the swimmers as relevant and appropriate.
7. To assist and be innovative in development and promotion of the club.
8. To assist and support the Committee in their roles as appropriate.
Luke Le Cras is a successful Island swimmer representing Guernsey at the Inter-insular, winning 3 Breaststroke Gold medals in the 2020 Hampshire county championships, qualified for the regional championships and achieved high rankings which should have enabled him to be selected for the British and English Nations which were sadly cancelled for 2020. Luke is training hard and is hoping that he will achieve the qualifying times for the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2023.
“ I would like to thank everyone that voted for me to be your Club Captain. I’m looking forward to being back in the pool and supporting all our younger up and coming swimmers and offer any advice they may need to help them progress”
Charlie-Joe Hallett is our most experienced senior swimmer who has competed for the Island in the Inter-insular and the Island Games, where in Gibraltar he was one of the two swimmers who achieved an individual gold medal. Charlie-Joe has been a gold and silver medallist at the English Nationals and finalist at British Nationals and has broken numerous Island records in addition to achieving an A qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everybody back in the water soon and helping our swimmers to achieve their goals”
We would like to wish both Luke and Charlie-Joe all the best on Behalf of the Directors, committee, teachers and coaches of the Guernsey Swimming Club.
