The Guernsey Swimming Club held its annual Porpoise Gala on the 13 and 15 March 2026 at Beau Sejour.
This junior gala continues a proud tradition that dates back to the club’s early days at the historic La Vallette pools. While the events have evolved to reflect the modern sport, the gala still honours its roots, with several trophies carrying names and legacies from generations past.
Among the most prestigious of these is the Curr Cup—awarded to the youngest swimmer who completes a 10m swim without stopping, assistance, or touching the bottom. It was won this year by Dylan Ford aged 4.
The Collingswood Trophy for the most points scored by a boy aged five and under competing in the small pool was won by Beaudie Travers.
In the small pool, six-year-olds and above events, Emillie Maxwell received the the Norman Trophy for the girls and the Kneebone Trophy for the boys, went to Ezekiel Le Page.
In the main pool, which featured distances of 25m, 50m and 100m, Club squad swimmers continued to demonstrate the development of their swimming skills.
For the 7 & under category, Orla Gosling earned the Norbrees Trophy for the girls, with Johnny Woodington taking home the Tiverton Trophy for the boys.
In the 8-9 years age group, Olivia Neethling secured the Boram Trophy, while Duncan Le Tissier was awarded the Brunswick Trophy.
In the 10/11 age category, Poppy Sargent was the winner of the Alice Collins Trophy, and Aaron Beak was awarded the Butt Trophy.
The Lee Cup for the best overall performance of the gala whose winner is selected by the Guernsey Swimming Club Directors was awarded to Lysander Lake for breaking the Boys 6 years old and above, 10 m freestyle record left untouched since 2008.
Reflecting on the weekend, Head Coach Heather Jackson:
“Seeing these younger swimmers taking part in the Porpoise Gala and their results, demonstrate the success of our Learn to Swim and Learn to Train programme. These swimmers show that the future of the Club is secure and the potential being honed.”
Club President Chris Butt:
“It was great to see our younger swimmers in action, particularly those competing in the main pool for the first time. The older swimmers were also posting times for selection into the Annual Junior Team for May. A good all round gala for our younger swimmers.”
