Seven swimmers from the Guernsey Swimming Club showcased their talent and determination at the prestigious ARENA Manchester International Meet, held at the renowned Manchester Aquatics Centre. The venue, which hosted the aquatics events for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, provided a world-class setting with its diving pit, a 50m Olympic-sized pool, and a 25m swim-down pool. This high-profile event offered invaluable long-course experience for the club’s athletes, who rose to the challenge with outstanding performances.
The competition kicked off on Friday with an exceptional swim from Chloe Sarre, who delivered a stellar performance in the 800m freestyle, achieving a significant new long-course personal best. She continued her strong form in the 400m freestyle, thrilling spectators with a remarkable comeback from fifth place to second in her heat, securing another personal best time.
Club Captain Emma Bourgaize delivered a spectacular performance, securing a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke in an incredibly tight finish, touching the wall just 0.01 seconds ahead of her closest rival. She added to her medal tally with a silver in the 50m butterfly and also earned spots in additional finals, demonstrating her versatility and competitive edge.
Luke Le Cras impressed with his consistency, qualifying for two finals and maintaining steady performances throughout his events. Meanwhile, Grace Reid and Scarlett-Rose Foss capitalised on the opportunity to gain valuable racing experience against elite UK swimmers, improving their times and building confidence in a highly competitive environment.
Fellow Club Captain Olly Stevens had a standout weekend, achieving new long-course personal bests while also serving as an inspiring leader, rallying teammates at the blocks and fostering a strong sense of team spirit. Samuel Cann also took on a packed schedule with determination, delivering strong swims and making the most of the high-calibre competition.
All seven Guernsey Swimming Club athletes delivered exceptional performances, setting new personal bests and gaining crucial experience racing against some of the UK’s finest swimmers. Their achievements highlight the club’s commitment to excellence and development on the national stage.
