Island Championships Update 24/11/21

Island Championships updates due to COVID-19

There will be no spectators at this years competition.

All swimmers and officials have to have taken a Lateral Flow test before the start of the session each day. Masks are to be advised but are optional if everyone swimming or officiating is negative then the risk is really low.

Guernsey Swimming Club will sit in the balcony area which is well ventilated and the whipping area for the GSC swimmers, which will be stewarded, will be at the bottom of the stairs behind the glass door. Swimmers will then go straight behind the blocks as soon as the swimmers start their races. Sarah Whitchurch will be given a place on poolside and Jo Norman will sit with her.

Barracudas will sit in the seating areas on poolside and the whipping area for the Barracudas will be seated on a bench by the Hydro pool with no more that 2 or 3 events in advance. A Barracuda Coach will send their swimmers behind the blocks as soon as the swimmers start their races and not before.

There will be a ‘no go’ area for swimmers from the 5m flag in the deep end where the referee will be. Swimmers should remain seated during the competition other than to go to their races or the changing room.

Warm up

We would like to suggest that each club warms up as a team.

The 1st warm up will be GSC for 20 minutes starting from the deep end.

The 2nd warm up will be the Barracudas for 20 minutes starting from shallow end.

Swimmers from the first warm up would then have the changing rooms to put on their skins. The session would not start until the swimmers in the first heats have had time to put on their skins.

Two warm ups will elevate congestion in the changing rooms and the first warm up will be putting on skins when 2nd warm up is taking place.

There will be no presentation of medals and trophies. These will be given to the coaches after each session. This way swimmers may leave when they have finished competing.

The Directors of the Guernsey Swimming Club will be following the Government Guidelines, in conjunction with those of Swim England, and we will make the final go/no go on Thursday but as at today the above is how we propose to run this competition.
