The States Cup 2025

The States Cup has been a treasured part of our club’s heritage since the early 1900s, when the States of Guernsey gifted two beautiful trophies—one for ladies and one for men—to be contested in a unique swimming challenge. More than a century later, these original trophies are still proudly presented at our annual awards evening, linking today’s swimmers to generations of club tradition.

This year’s event saw swimmers aged 9 and above take on the demanding States Cup swim—a single continuous race made up of several distinct elements:

  • 25m Breaststroke

  • 25m Lifesaving Breaststroke

  • 25m Breaststroke (second section)

  • 25m Lifesaving Breaststroke

  • 100m Frontcrawl

Completing all of these components back-to-back makes the States Cup one of the most challenging and unique events in our programme. It was fantastic to see our swimmers embrace the test with enthusiasm and determination, showcasing both skill and stamina.

A huge well done to everyone who took part! And to those who were DQ’d—please don’t worry. This race is very different from our normal competition format, and its difficulty is part of what makes taking part such an achievement. The most important thing is that you rose to the challenge and enjoyed the experience.

One of the club’s longest-standing records remains untouched from this event: Andrew Robilliard’s remarkable performance in 1980, a testament to the enduring legacy of the States Cup.

We’re incredibly proud to continue this historic event in our modern facilities and look forward to seeing future generations take on the challenge.
