English Summer Nationals 2025

Two swimmers of the Guernsey Swimming Club took part in the Swim England Summer Meet, more commonly known as the English Nationals, at Ponds Forge International Sport Centre in Sheffield between 30th July and 2nd August 2025. 

Sam Cann, after competing in the Island Games, qualified for the English Nationals for the first time.  He participated in the 50m breaststroke finishing 11th in is age group and narrowly missing on the finals. He also took part in the 100m breaststroke. 

Emma achieved a bronze in the 100m freestyle with a significant long-course personal best of 59.52. 

She also reached the finals for the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and took part 100m butterfly.

Coach Matt Butt, who was with the swimmers during the week said: At this competitive swimming event, both swimmers performed exceptionally well. It was a wonderful way to wrap up the swimming season.

Head Coach, Heather Jackson commented on the last 2 weeks of swimming: ‘Over both weeks, we have had 5 swimmers competing, Chloe Bown, Charlie-Joe and Ronny Hallett all at British Nationals, followed by Sam Cann and Emma Bourgaize at English, with 3 of the 5 coming home with medals.  

As a Coach I am extremely proud of all of them and what they have achieved. Their hard work and dedication shines through, especially at such a high level competition.’
