Channel Island Championships 2024

The Channel Island Championships were held at Haute Vallee pool in Jersey, the weekend of 22nd November, and saw the four Channel Islands teams compete.

The Guernsey Swimming Club took a squad of 23 swimmers all of whom swam brilliantly throughout, producing a number of personal best times along the way.

Lola Williams was the first to compete for the club, and produced a fantastic personal best of 22 seconds in her 800m freestyle. Lola then went on to achieve personal best times across all of her races. She also won 7 medals. Grace King, Samuel Dunning and Samuel Cann also achieved personal bests in all their races, with Grace winning 8 medals and Sam Cann winning 7 gold.

Olly Stephens swam fantastically throughout producing a number of personal bests, including an incredible 14 second PB in his 400m freestyle, and an 18 second PB in his 1500m freestyle. He also took home 3 silver medals.

Poppy Sargent was the youngest swimmer competing over the weekend, she competed in 11 events, placing first in all, giving her 11 gold medals to take home!

The support shown by the team was wonderful to see as always and was lead by one of the younger swimmers, Jude Marley, who cheered every single one of his teammates over the competition.

Over the weekend the Guernsey Swimming Club swimmers competed in a total of 166 races. There were 102 PBs achieved and 84 medals won, 33 gold, 30 silver and 21 bronze.

Sam Cann also brought home trophies for the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke, and Emma Bourgaize for the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, as they were the fastest male and female in these events.

“I am really proud of how well all of our swimmers have done over the competition, they have all worked incredibly hard to achieve the times they did and all showed great sportsmanship throughout.” Heather Jackson, Head Coach, commented.
