The Guernsey Swimming Club held its annual Porpoise Gala on 28th and 30th April 2023. Swimmers aged up to 11 years swam in events ranging from 10 metres in the small pool to 50 metres in the main pool.
The Club’s youngest participants took part in the mixed five and under 10m freestyle and backstroke events in the small pool and Orla Gosling (4) took gold for the freestyle while Lailee Loveridge (5) finished first for the 10m backstroke.
The competition for the Girls’ seven and under Norbrees trophy saw seven year old Faye Castle bring the trophy home after contested races in the 25m breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke. In the Boys’ category, Ari Homan, 7 years old, took home the Tiverton trophy.
The 8-9 year old events saw swimmers competing in the 50m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, the 25m butterfly and the 100 IM. Poppy Sargent (8), after touching first for the five events took the Boram trophy as the overall winner. In the Boys’ 8-9 age group, Jude Marley (9) and following 4 wins, was rewarded the Brunswick Trophy.
Lola Williams (11), touched first in the 50m butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and 100m IM in the 10-11 years old girls’ events. She took home the Alice Collins trophy.
In the Boys’ 10-11 age group, Adam Beak and William Le Tissier, both 10, share the Butt Trophy after scoring the most points for this age group.
The Guernsey Swimming Club also holds the annual Curr Cup in this gala which sees small pool swimmers compete over 10 metres. The youngest swimmer to complete the distance takes home the trophy and this year, the Cup went to 4 year old Orla Gosling.
