Samuel Lowe and Charlie-Joe Hallett battled it out in the Guernsey Swimming Clubs 400m Freestyle championship. Charlie-Joe got a great start just edging in front of Samuel first into the turn with Samuel on his heels just managing to hold onto the lead for the first half of the race. Samuel gradually over took and was half a length ahead with 50m to go not giving up Charlie-Joe fought back to the very end with Samuel just getting the touch with both swimmers just 0.18 seconds apart to take the 14 and over club championships.
Swimming in different heats junior swimmers (13 and under) both Thomas Stewart and Olly Stephens both had great swims winning their individual heats with Thomas coming out in front with the better time of 5:42.29 to take the boys junior championship.
Laura Le Cras had a comfortable swim taking the senior championship finishing two lengths ahead of her nearest rival outside her entry in 4:47.69 but nevertheless a good swim early in the season following lockdown and the rearranging of all the clubs events into the last quarter this year. Hannah Kennedy had a superb swim shaving 12 seconds off her entered time to finish second overall and the Junior champion in a time of 5:01.18. It was great to see more 9 and 10 year olds taking on the challenge of the 400m freestyle distance event.
