Laura makes both finals at the ASA Summer Nationals Championships
Having swam an excellent South East championship Guernsey Swimming Club Laura Le Cras finished hirer enough in the national rankings for the 50m and 100m freestyle events to be invited to attend the ASA National Swimming Championships long course meet held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
This was Laura’s first nationals meet and being ranked 14 in the 50 meter freestyle Laura was not expecting to make the final. Going in the first heat Laura had a great start put her head down and swam her heart out finishing In a new personal best time of 28.46. Laura had to wait until the next 5 heats were swam to find out if she had done enough to make the final which she had done being seeded 7th fastest a great achievement and beyond her expectations making her first National final.
The 50m finals were held in the evening Laura got a good start battled to the end with all 10 swimmers in a line it was down to the touch with all swimmers finishing within 0.40 of a second. Laura bettered her time by 0.01 finishing 10th.
The 100m freestyle was on the Thursday with the heats in the morning and finals in the evening Laura was second into the turn at the 50m mark in a very fast heat finishing just outside her personal best time but again had done enough to make the final. The Final was swim late in the evening. Laura started well and again was second into the turn at the 50m mark and although Laura swam hard to the end in a highly competitive race the long course experience of the other competitors gave them the edge just getting to the touch before Laura who finished 7th overall in a new personal best time of 1.01.00 in an extremely close finish.
This was a great experience for Laura who has also been selected to represent Hampshire County and the Regional County teams competition in October, and hopefully will also qualify to attend the ASA Winter Nationals in December.
