Southern Success for Sophie and Laura
Following their success at the Hampshire County Championships Guernsey Swimming Club swimmers Laura Le Cras and Sophie De La Mare qualified for the recent ASA South East Regional Swimming Championships held in the 50m K2 pool in Crawley.
Returning to Crawley for her second year, 12 year old Laura competed in 6 events and her highest placing was 11th in the 50m Freestyle 31.05. She also achieved a 13th 100m FC 1.07.98, 16th 200 FC 2:28.86, 17th 200 IM 2.53.28, 18th 100m Butterfly 1.20.98 and 19th 50m Butterfly 34.91.
Competing in her first regional level gala and after winning the overall 14 year old County Champion gold for the previous distance Hampshire County weekend, 13 year old Sophie’s highest placing was a commendable 7th in the 50m butterfly 31.89. She also managed a 9th 100m Butterfly 1.11.33 and 17th 50 Backstroke 34.99 both girls gaining valuable long course experience during this exciting regional weekend and moving up in the National rankings and a good high level pre Island Games event for Sophie De La Mare.
