Guernsey Swimming Club 50m Sprint Gala
Clean sweep of records for 12 year old Laura Le Cras.
Seven new records were set at the Guernsey Swimming Club 50m spring Gala on Saturday 11th July in the St Sampsons High School pool. Laura Le Cras produced some outstanding swims to set new records in all four strokes, Laura took nearly 2 seconds off the 50m butterfly record and also achieve one of her personal goals by going under 30 seconds in the 50m freestyle to round off a very good season for her and a well-earned rest over the summer holidays.
Jack Blondel broke the record in the 50m butterfly and smashed the 29 year old 50m breaststroke record set by Gary Smith in 1986 long before Jack was born in a time of 34.53. Jack also placed 1st in the 50m Freestyle and backstroke.
Island Games medallist Matt Girard broke his own 50m freestyle record in a time of 24.06, although still recovering from the Island Games and not performing at his best. Matt placed 1st in all four strokes.
Other swimmers taking a clean sweep in all four strokes in their age groups were 9 years & Under Joshua Dunning , 10- 11 years Kiia Walker and Ronny Hallett, 14-15 years Island Games Medallist Sophie De La Mare.
In the 9 & under Girls Morgan Hamon won the backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle with Ebony Lowndes winning the butterfly. In the Boys 12-13 years Luke Winstanley coming back to swimming after a break won the butterfly, Breaststroke and Freestyle with Etienne Gaudion taking the backstroke. In the Ladies open category Heather chapman won the Backstroke and freestyle with Claire Hyland nee Hudson winning the butterfly and Esther Iseppi wining the Breaststroke.
Although the sprint gala comes at the end of the season with many swimmers being very tiered and ready for the summer break the standard of swimming was high with some outstanding performances.
