Charlie-Joe and Ronny Hallett both attended the Plymouth Leander National Qualifier Meet over the May bank holiday weekend. Ronny, aged 14 swam in the 14/15 year old category where he reached finals and swam extremely well producing personal best times in all of his races. In the 50m freestyle he won his heat in a creditable 27.88, which now ranks him no.2 in Hampshire and in the top 25 for the South East Region for this event. He swam a gutsy 100m freestyle in a 1.01.66 and also won his heat in the 50m breaststroke knocking off 1.5 seconds from his entry time setting a long course personal best time of 35.30. Ronny also swam in the 100m and 200m breaststroke setting new long course personal best times of 1.20.04 and 2.54.57. He gained some valuable experience swimming competitively in a 50m pool.
Charlie-Joe aged 16 swam in the 16+ years category against a high quality of swimmers and kicked his weekend off with the 200m backstroke placing 6th in the heats with a 2.17.30 which gave him a place in the final where he managed a creditable 5th place. In the 50m freestyle he swam a fantastic personal best time of 25.23 placing him 13th overall. In the 100m breaststroke he swam a 1.10.96, just under his entered time which placed him 14th in a very competitive field. On day two Charlie-Joe swam himself into the final of the 200IM where he placed 5th in a time of 2.17.26, and in the 100m backstroke he swam a personal best time of 1.02.95 placing him 11th. He also managed to reach the 50m backstroke final swimming a new personal best time of 28.92 in the heats and placing 5th in the final. In the 200m breaststroke, his favourite event, the competition was strong and he placed 10th just missing out on a place in the final with a time of 2.34.88. He also swam in the 400IM placing 12th which should secure him a place in the English Nationals where he is ranked in the top 30.
A great weekend of competition where much experience of swimming heats and finals was gained.
